Meet Jon
Jon thinks
big-picture.
For the past decade, Jon’s been the owner and operator of Jonny Boston’s International, a popular Newmarket restaurant.
Lately, though, prices for everything have been going up, and Jon was forced to choose between continuing to raise prices on the hardworking members of his community, or stepping up to the plate and doing something about it.
Jon’s top priorities all revolve around two core values: Granite Staters deserve to be able to live an affordable, happy, and healthy life, and that our democracy must properly represent and respond to the people’s problems.
Jon understands that it’s not left versus right, it’s the wealthy elites versus the working-class, because he doesn’t just understand working-class struggles, he LIVES them.
early life and education
Jon was born in 1982 and raised in Stratham. He graduated from Exeter High School in 2001. He studied audio engineering at the SAE Institute in Melbourne, Australia, then returned to New Hampshire to build his life and career here.
Rock & Roll & writing
Jon recorded two albums and performed under the band name Jesus is a Jedi. He also published books in 2012 and 2013, including Dream Detectives: Something Funny About the Cake, a finalist for the New Hampshire Children’s Book Award, and A Ghost in the Darkness: The True Story of the Vicki Bader Murder. These projects show follow through, clear communication, and the ability to connect with an audience, useful skills for public life.
Building a Business from the Ground Up
In 2014 Jon opened Jonny Boston’s International in Newmarket. He ran the operation himself, cooking, washing dishes, serving customers, and managing the books. That experience gave him a working view of what local businesses face in New Hampshire, from staffing and budget pressures to customer service and community expectations.
Community Leadership
As the opioid epidemic intensified, Jon co founded the Newmarket Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention in 2015. He brought partners together and focused attention on a local response. This work reflects a habit of acting when problems are close to home and measurable in community terms.
Service in Local Government
Jon served on the Newmarket Zoning Board, the Energy and Environment Committee, and the Town Council. He supported legalizing tiny homes to widen housing options. He wrote an ordinance that allowed restaurants to serve alcohol on sidewalks, which helped downtown hospitality. He pressed for a livelier, more connected town center. He also served on the board of the Newmarket MillSpace, planning events and helping expand the arts and business scene. The throughline is practical change that residents can see.
Life in New Hampshire Today
Jon lives in Newmarket with his nine year old son, Ollie, his partner, Emily, and their two cats, Duck and Pizza Cat. He hikes in the White Mountains and spends time on the coast. His ties are local, his work has been local, and his focus is on making New Hampshire a place where families and small businesses can thrive.
