Unsure where to start or what to expect?
This guide explains the work, the tools, the time commitment, and the support you will receive from the Kiper team.
getting started
-
Complete the volunteer form (on this page) and pick an interest area (field, digital, events). We’ll confirm by email/text and schedule your first training. Training is standard because it improves effectiveness and consistency.
-
No. We train for every role (door-to-door, phonebank, text, data, digital content). Though, if you have experience with any of these that would be great!
-
Typical baseline is 1–2 hours per week. Expect higher cadence during GOTV (final 2 weeks).
-
Yes. Phone-banking, texting, digital media, research, and data entry can be done from home.
talking to humans
-
You will speak with voters at their homes using a short script and a walk list (a mapped list of addresses in a mobile app). You will record each result in the app, since accurate notes decide where the campaign follows up. New volunteers are paired the first time, and we brief safety, etiquette, and how to handle difficult questions.
-
You will join a scheduled calling session in the campaign dialer (software that places calls for you). A script and answer guide will be ready, and a staff lead will be available for help. You will log every outcome so the data team can plan the next step.
-
You will share approved posts, invite people to events, and answer basic questions using talking points. If a question goes beyond the guide, you will route it to staff rather than guessing. We provide an asset library, sample captions, and simple do and don’t guidance.
-
You will show up, bring a friend if you can, and help create energy in the room. If asked, you will help collect sign ups with a campaign form that captures consent. Staff will direct you to a check in point and provide a short briefing.
-
You will host a 60 to 90 minute gathering at your home or a community space, invite your network, and welcome attendees. A staffer or trained surrogate will lead the briefing and Q&A, so you can focus on turnout and hospitality. We provide RSVP tools, a simple agenda, and follow up steps.
-
You will send one to one texts from a campaign platform, not your personal number. Templates and short personalization tips are provided, and you will mark opt outs immediately. Questions that require detail will be escalated to staff.
-
You will staff a table at a market, game, or campus, greet people, offer materials, and capture sign ups. We show you an easy opener, for example, “What issues matter most to you this year,” and a polite close. The campaign supplies signage, literature, and a digital form.
-
You will help with setup, check in, line management, speaker timing, and breakdown. This role fits people who like clear tasks and logistics. You will receive a run of show (a minute by minute plan) and a point of contact on site.
-
You will reserve a public space, coordinate timing with the campaign, and invite your community. The campaign provides a speaker, materials, and a simple program, and you focus on turnout and hospitality. We supply invitation language, registration tools, and a day of checklist.
Not Talking to Humans
-
You will hold signs at high traffic corners during commute hours to build name recognition. We brief safety, spacing, and local rules, and we group volunteers so no one is alone. Sessions are upbeat and time boxed.
-
On election days, you will stand outside the legal buffer zone at your polling place and provide positive visibility. You will not engage voters in line, and you will follow directions from local officials. The campaign will provide exact boundaries and etiquette.
-
You will deliver yard signs to supporters who requested them, then log each address in a simple tracker. You will install only with the owner’s permission and never in restricted public areas. The campaign provides routes, placement tips, and a quick photo guide if documentation is needed.
-
You will leave door hangers or flyers where it is permitted, and you will never put anything in a mailbox. The goal is quick, respectful coverage, with new opt ins captured via QR code or short link. We provide maps, materials, and a brief for any short conversations that arise.
-
You will add your name to a concise letter that supports Jon’s priorities and meets the outlet’s rules. The campaign coordinates drafting and submission, and you approve the final language before publication. If you prefer to write your own letter, we will coach you.
-
You will create print or digital assets using the brand kit, which includes logos, colors, and typography. We provide sizes, templates, review timelines, and accessibility targets, for example, color contrast for readability. Files are shared in a common folder with version control.
-
You will watch local groups and mentions for questions, misinformation, or event opportunities, then log items in a tracker. You will not argue in comments or freelance policy, you will flag items to the rapid response lead. Training covers what to capture, including links and screenshots.
-
You will photograph events and candid moments, obtain consent when appropriate, especially for minors or private venues, and deliver edited images quickly. We provide a shot list, file naming rules, and a folder structure so the team can publish fast. Captions with names, locations, and dates improve reuse.
-
You will provide a short quote, your name and role, and an optional headshot. We help refine the quote so it stays in your voice and aligns with message discipline. You will approve final usage for the website, social channels, and print.
what to expect
-
We will do our best to train you for the role you are interested in. Role briefing, code of conduct, safety, scripts, and tool walk-throughs. Expect short refreshers before each shift. You will not be thrown into the thick of it without the proper support and preparation.
-
Yes! As part of the ‘Talking to People’ training you will receive issue briefs, approved messages, and whatever else is appropriate to your role.
-
It depends on the role, but anything beyond a phone, water, weather-appropriate gear, and your ID will be provided to you.
-
Yes. In New Hampshire, minors may volunteer with written parent or guardian consent, and we follow state youth-employment rules.
-
Let us know, we are happy to accommodate! Many roles are remote or seated; we can match tasks to your needs.
